GAME ON Program

Macquarie ICT Innovations Centre is inviting everyone to join us for ‘GAME ON’ a festival celebrating video game culture.  Play the best games, learn about games, game culture and designing games Parent information sessions will be conducted by key speakers throughout the festival day.

Join Goose from ABCTV’s Good Game who will be hanging out at the festival, interviewing people, chatting about his experiences and presenting prizes. GAME On is designed to bring people of all ages together to participate in interesting activities and engage in playful experiences in exciting ways. We like to think there will be something for everybody at GAME On including:

  • playing games all different types, ARG included. If you have a SMART phone bring it along, you’ll need it!
  • competing in game design challenges for awesome prizes
  • experiencing and mining in a Minecraft multi player world
  • chilling out in our retro gaming hubs,
  • chatting to indie game developers showcasing their games
  • listening to information sessions on topics such as ‘We play, we design, we learn’, ‘Managing your child’s gaming habits – pitfalls and benefits’, ‘How to break into the Game Design Industry?’ and the ‘Benefits of playing video games’
  • joining in on live action games
  • experiencing all things Kinect, including epic Dance Central crowd dancing
  • visiting Industry booths
  • GAME On festival prize presentation
  • answering video game trivia questions

The festival hopes to build a bridge between video gaming and the community.

‘Managing children’s gaming habits – pitfalls and benefits’: Dean Groom – 11:00am in the Library Foyer – 11:00 – 11:30am in the library foyer Dean Groom is Head of Educational Development at Macquarie University. Dean has a career background in digital communications and media for over 20 years. He is an international presenter at conferences around emerging technology innovation, project and game based learning for education. He is co-founder of the social enterprise network – Massively Productive. 

‘Inside the head of a gamer. What is happening when we play and design games’: Professor James Dalziel and Kate Highfield –

GAME On Speed Challenge – from 9:30am onwards in Building C5B: Macquarie ICT Innovations Centre (MacICT)

Have a go at creating a Kodu game in 1 hour! Prize awarded for ‘Best of the Fest’ and all other entries go in a draw to win a consolation prize. This will be drawn at 2:30pm at the Atrium. If you have children under 13, they can be dropped off at MacICT while parents attend the info sessions in the library foyer. Your children will be cared for until you pick them up.

Microsoft Xbox Kinect Trailer – from 9:30am onwards in front of the library

Microsoft will have their massive canopy trailer set up in front of the library. Here you will be able to play all things Kinect!

Multiplayer Minecraft World – from 9:30am onwards in Building C5B: Macquarie ICT Innovations Centre (MacICT).

Join other miners from around the world in a multiplayer Minecraft world hosted by the Jokaydia Massively Minecraft group. If you have children under 13, they can be dropped off at MacICT while parents attend the info sessions in the library foyer. Your children will be cared for until you pick them up.

Mario Kart Golden Mushroom Rally – 10:00am – 1:00pm Library foyer, level 2

The Golden Mushroom Rally consists of a series of knockout rounds of Mario Kart. These rounds will be at intervals throughout the festival. Finalist will compete for a prize in the final round.

Zombie Rising Nerf Game 9:30am- 1:00pm, Atrium

Join in the fun with our live action zombie rising nerf gun game. Human players explore a warehouse and must remain vigilant and defend themselves with nerf guns to avoid being tagged by a the zombie horde. Each game will last for 15 minutes and you can play as many times as possible. At the festival, drop by the Atrium to book a time to play!
